thanks to Outback Steakhouse for donating the food,
equipment and staff for the benefit of the DHS Marching Band

So after thunder and lightning storms and 90 degree weather in
September, this week we had the after effects of hurricane Noel. No
moisture, but gale force winds and COLD! The wind impacted
everyone's performance, but what a great show! In the end, Danbury wound
up in 5th place in Class IV, but it was a pretty close competition. Lots
of room for movement in the placements before Championships next week. I'm
sure the band and guard will be working extra hard this week, no matter what the
weather. They can feel good that they did their best as a new, small Class
IV band.
| We knew it would happen sometime
this season. The rain fell long and hard on
October 27, the Naugatuck competition day. Practice was
delayed until 2PM and was held indoors so that the band
could practice for the indoor show. It's a different
experience, playing in the gym. The Danbury
Hatters did themselves proud, earning a "Superior"
rating (the highest awarded by the judges during indoor
shows)! The new uniforms looked GREAT!
And what a treat for the spectators to be able to hear the
Coast Guard Drum and Bugle Corps. Next weekend will be a
preview of Championships with all of the Class IV bands
competing together at the same show for the first time this
season. |

The
fans were cheering in the
stands at Bethel. The temperatures were such that you could
see your breath. High 40s. A beautiful fall
evening. Danbury gave it their all for George's birthday
(and a tribute to the old uniforms). A second place finish
with a score of 83.85. Narrowing the gap against the Class IV
MAC Champions. Wait until you see us in 2 weeks in Naugatuck! |
Way to go... a 2nd place finish at the
Newtown Show. The
weather was very summerlike with temperatures in the high 80's
during the day, dipping into the 70's by the end of the
evening. Not bad for October! The score keeps improving
by the week. Great job!
Congratulations to the Band and
Guard for their 3rd place finish at the Trumbull Show. The
weather was perfect for the evening festivities. The new blue
and orange pom poms were very visible in the stands. The
cheering was loud. It's great to see the new embellishments in
the marching program. The guard is much improved over last
year adding rifle and sabre skills to the program. The
show keeps getting better and better. Not bad for the smallest
and newest Class IV band.
Thanks to everyone who volunteered at
our Jamboree.
Special thanks to our co-chairs, Frank Salvatore and Gary
Sander. See
photos of the Jamboree taken by a parent and additional
photos taken by professional photographer, Wally
Kolek.

Do you shop for
groceries? Gas? Books? Gifts? By participating in
Great Lake Scrip, shopping for everyday items and holiday
gifts could raise significant dollars for the band and your
student. All you need to do is to purchase gift cards in advance for
these items that you would normally buy anyway. Takes a bit of
preplanning on your part, but the benefits could be huge! Take
a look at the list of participating retailers on
their site. You'll probably see several that you use right
now. Forms will be sent via email or you can get
them right here on the website.
